8. Blog - 2013
Another extended period of time passed, another blog entry. The last entry summed up the end of 2013 so similarly this should let you know what we've been up to in the new year. As I write this, Rourke is about two feet away from me recording the bass track to 'Sick As Me' for the debut album. I'm making myself very familiar with the couch. More on all that in a little bit.
The start of the year couldn't have been any better to us. We were honoured to be involved with the prestigious Vibe For Philo - An annual event that commemorates the life and music of a true music icon, Mr Philip Lynott. This was the 27th year for the Vibe to take place - organized and run by Phil's good friend, Smiley Bolger. On Thursday 3rd January we got the chance to perform at the Pre-Vibe in the Grand Social to a number of die-hard Lizzy fans. To say it was a daunting task to play our renditions of 'A Song for While I'm Away' and 'Dear Miss Lonely Hearts' is an understatement, especially due to the fact that we only had one full day to prepare for it.
Luckily for us (and thanks to the Pre-Vibe crowd), we were invited to perform on Friday 4th at the Main Event in the Button Factory. We had the honour of playing to a full house; just after the viewing of a video dedicated to Philo and just before Philomena Lynott made her speech. We met some great people over those few days, saw some amazing bands/musicians, and made a number of acquaintances that we'll hopefully continue to keep. I would like to take this opportunity say a HUGE HUGE HUGE THANK YOU to Smiley, Philomena and all the crew for giving us the opportunity to be involved with this year's Vibe. It was an absolute pleasure and honour to be part of it all.
Another highlight in the new year was getting to support The Pat McManus Band in Kells, Co. Meath on February 2nd. One word sums up the night pretty well: JAYSUS! We were all absolutely blown away by the musicianship displayed during their performance, not to mention that they were absolute gentlemen. If you haven't checked them already out make sure you do! We also played a number of shows around Dublin, Kildare and Carlow but generally have been keeping a fairly low profile for the moment due to the album.
...Which brings me back to the couch. Rourke is now working on 'Swear By Your Love'. Recently we've been focusing mainly on the recording of our debut album. This has involved locking ourselves away from family, friends, girlfriends, sunlight etc. in our jam room for many, many, many hours and working on the songs. As of now all the drum tracks have been recorded (a lovely feeling it is), and as I mentioned, Rourke is now laying down the bass. I'm stuck here like a chump listening to endless hours of him playing bass. He's in heaven. I can't give any dates in regards to the release but all I can say is watch this space.
